ALERT Clothing Company was founded by Rebecca Nelson in 2005 as a means to ensure that caregivers had knowledge of her children’s severe food allergies, and to take care in exposure to food that could cause a potential severe allergic reaction. As a mother of 3, with 2 having severe reactions to peanuts, soy, eggs, dairy and certain meat proteins, Rebecca was trying to think of a way to make sure that anyone who was either monitoring or had responsibility of  her children knew of these allergies.

“I wanted to let the teachers and caregivers know that my child had food allergies; and at the same time I did not want my child to feel self conscious.”

ALERT Clothing Company is designed with the child in mind. Colorful, cheerful graphics and the message of food allergies included on each shirt. The company logo is also on the back of the shirt to help with identification.

“I am very vigilant in letting all know about my child’s food allergies; because, one trace of offending food could put my child in a life threatening condition within minutes. The possibility would be traumatic for all involved the child, teachers, caregivers and classmates.”

Rebecca created a few versions of the t-shirts for her children and quickly found that other parents had similar concerns in regards to their children.

”I had no idea how many parents face the same challenges as I do, in protecting their children with food allergies.  In a busy classroom the teachers and caregivers were thankful, as well, because food is a daily issue.”
Food Allergy symptoms in children have skyrocketed in recent years and medical researchers are struggling to find answers as to why. It has been suggested that the cleanliness of our environment has something to do with food allergies. Obviously something has changed because millions of parents who never had food allergies are having children with a whole host of food allergy issues.

ALERT Clothing Company’s mission is to continue to work on these awareness themes and provide parents and caregivers peace of mind.

“A Parent cannot be present constantly, and two and three year olds cannot be depended upon to relay their food allergy message. My goal is to keep these children safe.”

My Best to you and your family.
